A Facebook page cover loads fastest at 851 × 315 px (minimum 400 × 150), but it shows in 16:9 on a computer and in 2.4:1 on a phone, so the center is the only safe area. The profile photo goes at 320 × 320 px and is cropped to a circle. Posts perform best in 4:5 and stories in 9:16.
Facebook changes its design every so often and size guides fall behind. That is why so many different figures circulate for the same thing, and why your cover looks fine on a computer and cropped on a phone.
Searches for Facebook sizes showed our blog 20,486 times on Google between June 25, 2025 and October 24, 2026, according to our Search Console. Almost all of them include the year in the query, such as “facebook sizes 2025” or “facebook cover size 2025”. People distrust old sizes, and they are right to.
Here are the sizes as Meta publishes them, checked on October 26, 2026, and what to do when the official figure is not enough.

What size is the Facebook cover?
Facebook’s official help gives three facts for a page cover: it must be at least 400 × 150 px, it loads fastest as an sRGB JPG of 851 × 315 px and under 100 KB, and it shows with different ratios depending on the screen.

Here is the trap. An 851 × 315 px file has a 2.7:1 ratio, longer than both screens. Facebook crops it to fit: on a phone (2.4:1) you lose a strip on each side and on a computer (16:9), quite a bit more. The only thing that always shows is the center.
Our practical recommendation:
- Design at 1702 × 630 px, double 851 × 315. It looks sharper on high-density screens and keeps the ratio Meta asks for.
- Keep text and logo in the center, away from the edges and from the left side, which Meta warns is partly covered by the profile photo.
- Export as PNG if there is lettering. Meta suggests it for covers with a logo or text.
- Check it on a phone and on a computer before calling it done.
What size is the Facebook profile photo?
320 × 320 px. Meta shows it at 176 × 176 px on a computer, at 196 × 196 px on phones and at 36 × 36 px on basic phones, always cropped to a circle.
That means two things. The corners get lost, so the logo goes in the center with space around it. And at 36 px nobody reads a slogan. If your logo has small lettering, use the short version or just the symbol.
What size do I use for posts?
For a feed image, 4:5 vertical: 1080 × 1350 px. It is the format that takes up the most screen on a phone. Meta’s ads guide asks for 4:5 for feed images, recommends 1440 × 1800 px and sets a minimum width of 600 px. If you advertise, use that larger size. For a regular post, 1080 × 1350 px is enough.

When you share a link, Facebook takes the image the web page defines for sharing. That image is usually 1200 × 630 px (1.91:1). If the link is to your website and the image comes out cropped or does not appear, check the sharing image your website defines (the og:image tag).
What about stories?
Stories go vertical 9:16, at 1080 × 1920 px. For ads, Meta recommends 1440 × 2560 px and asks you to leave 14 % at the top, 35 % at the bottom and 6 % on each side free, because that is where the name, the buttons and the call to action go. On a 1080 × 1920 canvas that equals about 269 px at the top, 672 px at the bottom and 65 px on the sides.
That bottom margin is big. If your story has a price or a “message us”, move it up to the center of the screen.
What fails most on business pages
A cover with text at the edges. It looks complete on the designer’s computer and cropped on the customer’s phone.
A logo with a slogan as the profile photo. In a 36 px circle, the slogan is a smudge.
Square posts out of habit. A square takes up less screen than 4:5. In a feed where everyone competes for the thumb, that matters.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Facebook cover size in 2027?
Meta recommends an sRGB JPG of 851 × 315 px and under 100 KB so it loads fast, with a minimum of 400 × 150 px. On a computer it shows in 16:9 and on a phone in 2.4:1, so keep what matters in the center.
What size is a Facebook page profile photo?
320 × 320 px for the best quality, according to Meta. It shows at 176 × 176 px on a computer and at 196 × 196 px on phones, cropped to a circle.
What size do I use for a post with an image?
4:5 vertical, for example 1080 × 1350 px. Meta asks for 4:5 for feed ad images, with a recommended resolution of 1440 × 1800 px and a minimum width of 600 px.
PNG or JPG for the cover?
JPG for photos. If the cover or the profile photo has a logo or text, Meta says PNG can give better quality.
Why does the profile photo cover part of my cover image?
Because that is how the page is designed. Meta explains that the left side of the cover is partly covered by the profile photo, and that on a phone it overlaps by about 40 px.
